About the role

Under the direction of a senior IES manager, the IES Application Architect Support Specialist will be assigned to the Integrated Eligibility System (IES) within the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) and will perform a hands-on, expert-level role responsible for ensuring the operational excellence of critical production systems. This position will focus on creating innovative solutions to improve a mission-critical service, driving automation, optimizing performance, and leading incident response from a technical standpoint. ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.

Responsibilities

  • SRE and Systems: Apply SRE principles to manage the reliability and scalability of enterprise-level systems including cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), microservices, and containers (Kubernetes).
  • Automation and Tooling: Write and implement code (e.g., Python) and leverage automation tools to eliminate manual toil and create scalable, self-healing systems. Build and maintain internal tools that enhance infrastructure and operations.
  • Observability and Analysis: Implement robust monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing systems (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK Stack). Analyze system metrics to proactively identify issues and drive data-backed technical decisions for performance tuning and capacity planning.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years of experience in Information Technology with significant time spent in a senior-level SRE or similar role, including running and operating DevSecOps tooling and processes for a state government program.
  • Expertise in:
    • Deep SRE and Systems: including cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), microservices, containers (Kubernetes).
    • Automation and Tooling: with experience writing and implementing code (e.g., Python) and leveraging automation tools.

The following degrees may substitute for the general experience as indicated:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience.
  • Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience.
  • Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional 2 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis.
