ICU Overnight Veterinary Technician

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Arden Hills, MN is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in their busy ICU Department. This role offers an exciting, fast-paced opportunity to utilize and expand skills, all while working alongside talented veterinary professionals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients using anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the veterinarian to any changes or issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Show patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

• Experience in a veterinary ICU setting preferred.
• Knowledge of anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Proficiency in digital radiography techniques.
• Understanding of normal patient vital sign ranges.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Experience with feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.
• Patience and empathy for clients and patients.
