About the role

I/E QC Inspector responsible for testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, overhauling, and repairing controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments, and precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, including ratio and proportions, powers of 10, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, and pressure unit conversions (inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI).
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings; prepare job reports.
  • Assemble and disassemble electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures; read, interpret, and apply procedures.
  • Understand principles of pH, redox, and related measurement/control equipment.
  • Work with Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, diodes, capacitors, and other electrical components.
  • Understand steam properties and reactions in different situations (e.g., saturation properties).
  • Apply principles of chemistry and physics in instrumentation (e.g., specific gravity, density, mechanical advantages, melting/freezing/boiling points).
  • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
  • Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and component functions.
  • Work with chemical plant process equipment (e.g., distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, compressors).
  • Measure pressure, level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
  • Maintain a current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
  • Perform inspections on materials, equipment, and construction/installation activities.
  • Issue quality records and non-conformance reports as needed.
  • Check cable laying, cable identification, and perform loop checks.
  • Update as-built drawings and perform punch-listing operations.
  • Inspect power transformers, switchboards, accumulator batteries, sockets, and lighting systems.
  • Perform visual inspections, dimensional tests, and verify ratings/materials for connections.
  • Conduct tests for continuity and insulation resistance.
  • Calibrate safety valves and instruments.
  • Check installation of instruments and perform functional tests.
  • Verify pneumatic signal connections and fiber optic cables.
  • Test communication functionalities.
  • Verify special processes and worker qualifications.
  • Witness tests, controls, and inspections; ensure conformity with the Quality Control Plan.
  • Manage documentation for tests, controls, and inspections.
  • Ensure correct implementation of the approved Inspection Test Plan.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a comparable role.
  • Previous construction experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Exposure to high-voltage electrical installation, including switchgear and electric drives.
  • Experience with Hazardous Area installations.
  • Instrument calibration experience (e.g., ultrasonic flow meters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters).
  • Working knowledge of BS/IEC/ISO/API/ATEX/EEMUA codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with construction standards, codes of practice, and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Package and other computer packages (e.g., MS Project, Outlook, Win PCS).
  • 3–5 years of Journeyman-level and QA/QC experience.
