About the role

As an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Operations Technician Lead, you’ll serve as a mentor to a team of safety-focused technicians, helping maximize equipment reliability and availability. You’ll deepen your expertise with high-level maintenance and operation of natural gas process-related equipment and systems, process control systems, instrumentation specifications, and electrical maintenance support. Root cause analysis and corrective actions focused on improving safety and minimizing unplanned shutdowns are key aspects of this role. You’ll partner with supervisors, managers, and project managers to share findings, define scopes, support instrumentation specifications, and drive reliable operations across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-level maintenance and operational tasks with natural gas process-related equipment and systems
  • Mentor and train less experienced operators and technicians
  • Minimize unplanned shutdowns through root cause analyses and corrective actions with a focus on improving safety
  • Partner with supervisors and managers to share findings, root causes, and resolutions
  • Fix and maintain process control systems
  • Partner with project managers to define project scope and instrumentation specifications for new projects
  • Maintain and operate glycol dehydration, cryogenic processing, fractionation plant, reciprocating and turbine compressors
  • Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment, vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Attend safety and technical training and share findings and learnings with leaders and peers
  • Maintain, operate, and mentor less senior technicians on Allen Bradley PLC systems
  • Follow and adhere to Williams’ System Integrity Plan for all regulatory requirements and company core values and beliefs
  • Lead quality maintenance duties to maximize equipment reliability and availability, including electrical troubleshooting of low to high voltage equipment, repair, and instrumentation and control valve calibration
  • Participate and help facilitate root cause analysis and execution of corrective actions to minimize recurrence of unplanned shutdowns
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems
  • Initiate and complete work orders and requisitions, and document all critical or pertinent information on a routine basis
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, instrumentation, and analytical equipment following electrical code, manuals, procedures, schematic diagrams, P&IDs, blueprints, and other specifications
  • Inspect instrumentation periodically and perform calibrations to ensure accuracy
  • Perform complex programming and controls work
  • Support additional tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum six (6) years' progressive experience in operations, engineering, or the energy industry
  • Valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Aptitude and ability to embrace technology and applications to drive operational efficiency and streamline processes
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with safety as the utmost priority
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and PC skills

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Associate or 2-year technical degree and minimum six (6) years' progressive experience in operations, engineering, or the energy industry
  • Previous experience working in gas-plant operations, gas compression, and/or liquid or gas gathering processes
  • Previous experience in the mechanical, electrical, and/or maintenance industry

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work in extreme temperatures, loud environments, and enclosed spaces
  • Carry or lift items up to 50 lbs and team-lift loads of more than 50 lbs as needed
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time
  • Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers with appropriate PPE
  • Use hand tools
  • Available to work after hours, on-call rotations, nights, weekend shifts, and holidays as the need arises
  • May be required to work overtime, 10-12 hour shifts, and travel between Williams locations with occasional overnight stays
