Hyundai Parts Counter Person
About the Role
The parts counter person is a key member of Wilmington Auto Group's parts team, responsible for selling parts to all customers, over the counter, through the shop, or on the phone.
Responsibilities
- Assists all customers (retail and shop) in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
- Informs customers of companion part requirements and specials and ensures that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
- Answers phone calls, provides price quotes, and other information.
- Reviews shop estimates to ensure the parts ordered are correct and all pricing aligns with the estimate.
- Provides a high level of service to internal and external customers.
- Pulls and fills orders from stock.
- Notifies parts manager of out-of-stock parts or shop materials needing immediate attention.
- Locates out-of-stock parts from outside sources and submits emergency orders if necessary.
- Notifies the service advisor and the customer when special ordered parts have been received.
- Follows up on back-ordered parts.
- Verifies will-call and back-order files weekly and returns to vendors, or stocks those items not picked up or required.
- Replenishes assigned inventory daily.
- Ensures all internal requests for parts are billed on service repair orders.
- Receives payment from retail customers or obtains credit authorization.
- Ensures all charge sales are signed by the customer.
- Ensures all customers receive their copy of the invoice.
- Issues credit for parts returned, ensuring the original invoice or its number is available for verification.
- Keeps orderly records of all repair orders, invoices, insurance estimates, and special-order parts.
- Maintains clean and uncluttered front and rear counter areas.
- Participates in all available training programs.
- Stays current on new products and product updates.
- Participates with the parts manager in maintaining a lost sales tracking program.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.

- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to interpret diagrams and vehicle specifications.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, percentages, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
Requirements
- Associate degree or certificate from a technical school preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive parts sales.
- Experience supporting parts department processes and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong math skills with a general understanding of parts inventory.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- OSHA forklift certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Reynolds & Reynolds DMS.
- Hyundai OEM parts experience.
- Experience supporting technicians in an automotive retail environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily in parts, with regular time in the service department to support technicians and service advisors.
- Some travel between locations may be required, along with occasional evening and weekend availability.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty plus (50+) pounds.
- Frequent stair climbing.
