HVAC Truck Based Journeyman Mechanic (union)

About the role

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics to support the growth of its HVAC business in North America. The position offers opportunities to work on advanced commercial HVACR service, with the potential for travel up to 10-20%. The role requires practical experience in commercial and industrial mechanical troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and open-drive screw chillers.
• Provide solutions and recommendations to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
• Write and communicate quotes to customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
• Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies in HVAC products and sales quoting.
• Enroll in training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
• Work with other mechanics, apprentices, and Servicemen to provide high-quality service.

Requirements

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Minimum of three (3) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry.
• Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing, and mechanical shaft alignment.
• Able to use vibration equipment and dial indicators for troubleshooting drivelines and compressors.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 10-20% to support branch customers.

Qualifications

• Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing.
• Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written skills.
• Self-starter with a passion for learning and applying on the job.

• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
• Proficiency in HVAC products and sales quoting.

Benefits

The position is a Bargaining Unit Position. Pay Range: $41.18 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
