HVAC Service Mechanic

About the role

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics to support its fast-growing HVAC business in North America. The ideal candidate must have practical work experience in their trade, specifically in HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and mechanical equipment service.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
• Provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service.
• Offer recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities run efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

Requirements

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Minimum of eight (8) years commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC and industrial petro-chemical, or data center vertical environments.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Able to install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and all supporting mechanical systems.
• Proficient in mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, and vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines.
• Able to travel up to 20% to support branch customers' activities, trouble-shooting, installation, and repair.

Qualifications

• Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license.

• Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written skills.
• Able to write and communicate about facility issues, causes, and corrective actions to customers.
• Able to provide quotes to customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
• Self-starter with a passion/desire to learn and apply on the job.
