Position Location
This position is located onsite in Fallon, Nevada.
Job Overview
The HVAC Mechanic will provide the repair and maintenance of all heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems. The incumbent will provide the daily HVAC maintenance operations and activities for all assigned facilities. The HVAC Mechanic will receive and evaluate work orders and requests, investigate problems where appropriate, and complete the necessary repairs.
Responsibilities
- Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, and modifies/upgrades HVAC system chillers, air handlers, cooling towers, heating units, air conditioners, coils, condensers, boilers/water heaters, furnaces, piping, valves, control systems, etc. (this includes government-provided portable chiller units). Additional requirements in AFI 32-1001, Civil Engineer Operations, will be followed.
- Oversees HVAC functions of the BUILDER SMS data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Performs all HVAC preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and/or PMTLs (whichever is more stringent), to ensure safe, functional, efficient, and reliable systems.
- Maintains appropriate and consistent climate control throughout the base, ensuring building temperatures and humidity are within specified ranges.
- Transports, connects, and operates government-provided portable chiller units as necessary.
- Maintains a water treatment and corrosion control program to control scale, algae, slime, and corrosion on HVAC systems. Documents water analysis, quantity of chemical used, and corrective actions.
- Cleans duct work as required to ensure system performance and performs duct work.
- Effectively coordinates several projects simultaneously.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
- Completes all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Performs duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Deals with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Adheres to established company operating policies, procedures, and accepted industrial practices.
- Complies with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
- Embraces and contributes to the parent company’s safety culture.
- Works well under pressure.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience working in a service and maintenance position in the HVAC field, with experience with HVAC systems 200 tons or larger.
- Licensed in accordance with Florida state law unless under the direct supervision of a technician having the appropriate licensure in accordance with Florida State law.
- Carrier SER 28, SER 120, SER 130, SER 270, and SER 275 training courses.
- Valid Universal CFC Certification.
- Thorough knowledge of refrigeration, chillers, HVAC, pneumatics, steam, and condensate systems.
- Thorough knowledge of National, State, and Local Building and HVAC Codes.
- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions.
- Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Secret Security Clearance.
- Ability to acquire and maintain government identification/common access card.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS).
- Ability to obtain Government credentials that may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience supporting a military base or civilian installation.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
- Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm, diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, dust, odors, and elevated noise levels.
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted surfaces/floors, cement structures, and surfaces.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use tools, equipment, chemicals, etc., to perform essential functions of the job.
- Ability to use standard office equipment/tools as may be required for the position (computer, phone, copy machine, hand-held radio, etc.).
- Occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and follow safe lifting procedures.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
- May be required to enter confined spaces.
