About the role

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic to support the fast-growing HVAC business in North America. The role involves servicing and repairing commercial and industrial equipment, including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
  • Partner with journeymen in the repair of complex machinery such as centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
  • Identify and troubleshoot system inefficiencies and resolve service-related issues.
  • Offer solutions and upsell opportunities to ensure facilities run efficiently.
  • Provide quotes and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
  • Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies in HVAC products and sales quoting.
  • Enroll in training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
  • Work with other mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, providing on-the-job training as needed.
  • Achieve and prioritize safety in all forms.

Requirements

  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC and industrial petro-chemical, or data center vertical environments.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Ability to install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems.
  • Experience with mechanical shaft alignment, vibration equipment, and pump/fan/compressor troubleshooting.
  • Travel may be required up to 20% to support branch customer activities, trouble-shooting, installation, and repair.

Qualifications

  • Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license.

  • Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a passion for learning and applying new skills on the job.

Pay

The pay rate is $43.05 per hour, determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
