HVAC Cooling Customer Engineer - San Francisco, CA

Installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service on Liebert Air products. Establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and management. Maintain continuous communication with Area/District Offices and direct manager.

Responsibilities

  • Rely on direction to accomplish goals and perform work-related tasks.
  • Work under direct supervision or independently based on training.
  • Maintain certifications as required by the job.
  • Provide on-site and phone assistance to customers.
  • Communicate with National Technical Support on equipment issues.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance according to company guidelines.
  • Implement Field Change Notices as published.
  • Stay current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips.
  • Operate safely and wear appropriate PPE per company guidelines.
  • Adhere to the "14 hours rule" for work hours policy.
  • Report all work-related accidents or injuries within 24 hours.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting (timecards, expense reports, mileage, ticket closure, forms).
  • Maintain individual and company inventory according to policy.
  • Manage company property (vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, pager).
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including estimated time of arrival.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance documentation and provide it to customers and the local office.
  • Aim for "first time fix" on equipment issues to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Attend customer meetings as required.
  • Maximize productivity by combining service opportunities.
  • Complete work efficiently and make technical/commercial decisions under pressure.
  • Evaluate site and equipment for appropriate billing status.
  • Maintain productive utilization rate and perform inventory cycle counts.
  • Adhere to company dress code and safety regulations.
  • Meet or exceed on-site response time requirements.
  • Understand and comply with company startup/escalation processes.
  • Maintain proper internal communications with managers, co-workers, and support services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • HVAC Certificate Program degree or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Six years of military experience in a related field or equivalent industry experience with EPA refrigerant license.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and ability to read/interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of Ohm’s law and HVAC theory.
  • Professional, reliable, and team-oriented interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to evaluate site conditions (environmental temperature, operating conditions).
  • Elementary repair techniques under directed supervision.
  • Ability to complete tasks and restore equipment to full operating conditions.
  • Strong communication, customer service, troubleshooting, safety, organizational, planning, computer, and mechanical skills.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers, handle tools/components, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and smell.
  • Frequently required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent driving (car, van, truck).
  • Consistently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Exposure to extreme cold (below 32°F) and extreme heat (above 100°F).
  • Medium to high noise levels (need to shout to be heard).
  • Work around moving machinery (forklifts, tractors).
  • Protective equipment required (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask).
  • Work outdoors with no effective protection from weather.
  • Travel is required; flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, holidays).
  • May have on-call responsibility.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role in California is $65,000 to $75,000 per year. Salary ranges for other geographic localities may vary. Eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus, stock, profit sharing, allowances, travel/car expenses, and sales incentives based on role and performance.
