HVAC Apprentice

About the role

Kelso Industries is seeking a motivated HVAC Apprentice to join their service team. This entry-level position focuses on preventative maintenance and service work, providing hands-on experience alongside licensed technicians while you work towards your own certifications and licenses.

What You'll Do

• Assist licensed technicians with scheduled preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment, including rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as filter changes, coil cleaning, belt and pulley inspection, and lubrication of moving parts.
• Help diagnose and troubleshoot routine service issues under direct supervision.
• Learn to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Support technicians during service calls, start-ups, and equipment inspections.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance performed, parts used, and observations for the lead technician.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on every job site.
• Follow all safety procedures, EPA guidelines, and company policies.
• Transport tools, parts, and equipment to and from job sites as needed.
• Attend company-provided training sessions and pursue progress toward HVAC certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to work toward EPA 608 Certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn.
• Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license in good standing.
• Enrollment in or completion of a trade school or HVAC training program.
• Prior experience in a mechanical, construction, or maintenance environment (preferred).
• Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems (preferred).
