Human Services Professional III- Crisis Intervention 2nd Shift
Position Summary and Job Duties
Holds person-centered behavioral health assessment, care, resources, and education for clients in crisis services. Supports emergency rooms, law enforcement, and other community agencies. Provides treatment planning, short-term treatment, and linkage to ongoing care for clients across the lifespan.
- Prioritize community needs and demands on the crisis unit.
- Review and oversee the development and implementation of safety plans.
- Document care provided.
- Collaborate with internal and external colleagues.
- Participate in clinical and administrative meetings.
- Support and promote the Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles of the Human Services Department.
Hours of Work
Week 1: Sunday through Friday
Week 2: Monday through Thursday, Saturday
All shifts: 3:30pm-12am
Job Duties
50% - Provides person-centered behavioral health care services for clients experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
Assesses clients in crisis to determine least restrictive disposition that will assure client safety.
Assesses for voluntary admission options for individuals without a funding source.
Authorizes Chapter 51.15 emergency detentions when appropriate.
Coordinates admissions, when clinically indicated, to the appropriate receiving facility.
Coordinates medical clearance if required with police, referring facility, and hospital ER staff.
Works with individuals and natural supports to create appropriate safety plans when clinically indicated and in consultation with the crisis supervisor.
Develops therapeutic relationships with clients.
Creates person-centered crisis response plans, crisis plans, and updates.
Provides individual, family, and/or group brief psychotherapy.
Coordinates client care and discharge planning as needed.
Links clients to psychiatry and other services or resources as indicated.
- 30% - Consults and assists with recommendations to law enforcement agencies about individuals experiencing an AODA-related crisis.
Assesses for and facilitates detox admission under 51.45.
Pre-admits and post-discharges suicidal assessments for detox clients.
Collaborates with county AODA specialists.
Collaborates with security or psych tech staff for transport to and from detox facilities.
Documents recommendations for treatment by detox providers.
- 10% - Conducts correctional detox, suicidal, and homicidal assessments.
Provides crisis services at the Rock County Jail.
Provides crisis intervention services at the Youth Services Center.
Coordinates the admission process when a detox or psychiatric hospitalization is clinically indicated.
Collaborates with Sheriff Office and YSC staff for crisis planning to maintain safety and inmate/youth behavioral management.
Provides backup work for court-related services when needed.
- 5% - Ensures program and medical record compliance.
Follows all departmental and divisional policies and procedures.
Provides unit oversight to scheduled welfare checks and safety plan process.
Documents client care in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- 2% - Other duties as assigned.
Success Factors (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- Knowledge of principles and practices of behavioral health care and its application, including person-centered crisis plans, trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, and stages of change.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to federal and state human service and behavioral health care programs.
- Knowledge of assessment and treatment of suicide, mental illness, and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications, their main effects, side effects, and abuse potential.
- Knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation services.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the agency and community.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and seek out supervision as needed.
- Ability to manage one's time and emotions in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent computer skills related to electronic record keeping, email, and internet.
Education, Training & Experience
- Masters degree in behavioral health field required;
- LCSW, LMFT, or LPC preferred, or ability and willingness to obtain licensure within 3 years;
- Substance abuse credential preferred or ability and willingness to obtain certification;
- Experience working with clients with complex functional and mental health impairments;
- Must possess and maintain a current unrestricted (not due to corrective lenses) driver's license and auto insurance pursuant to the Rock County Administrative Policy and Procedure 5.02 and 5.27.
Physical Elements
- Ability to sit for long periods throughout the day;
- Some physical activity related to retrieving and carrying records;
- Extensive computer including significant typing for documentation;
- Use of telephone, copier, and fax machine;
- Work in an office setting, with occasional community and home visits.
