Human Resources/Talent Development Unpaid Internship - Spring 2027

About the role

This is a non-merit, unpaid internship position with the 5th District, Department of Corrections. The Human Resources/Talent Development internship for Spring 2027 offers hands‑on experience in the employee lifecycle, supporting talent development, onboarding, and related HR functions. The internship is based in Des Moines, begins January 2027, and is exempt from the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise screening and referral requirements.

Responsibilities

• Practical experience in talent acquisition and onboarding processes within an HR environment
• Work closely with HR staff to help ensure a smooth, positive candidate and new‑hire experience
• Schedule interviews and coordinate communications between candidates, HR, and managing supervisor/mentor
• Assist with processing paperwork and coordinating orientation

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age and have completed at least two years of college by the start of the internship
• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited educational institution
• Comfortable being in a criminal justice environment
