About the role

This role involves maintaining knowledge of legal requirements, counseling employees, conducting new hire orientations, processing status changes, administering workers' compensation programs, and managing various benefit programs.
Responsibilities
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations in their areas of responsibility.
- Counsels employees regarding human resource policies and procedures relative to transfer, promotion, pay, benefits and conditions of employment.
- Conducts new hire orientations.
- Periodically reviews materials distributed during orientation and in recruitment packets and updates or recommends improvements.
- Processes Status changes and updates the HRIS system for hires, terminations, job changes, salary/wage changes, benefit changes, personal data changes, etc.
- Administers Workers’ Compensation programs.
- Prepares first report of injury and maintains records of accidents for OSHA reporting.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations in their areas of responsibility.
- Monitors existing Workers’ Compensation claims and ensures that progress is made in rehabilitating employees.
- Captures and coordinates the Return to Work program.
- Administers benefit programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, 401(k) plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance for their location.
- Keeps records of benefit plan participation and prepares employee benefit materials packets for the annual Open Enrollment.
- Administers union labor agreements including job bidding, transfers, wage changes, department changes and discipline logs, etc.
- Participates on Safety Committees, attends union grievance meetings and assists with union negotiations preparations, may participate in union negotiations as requested.
- Maintains Human Resources files including employee files, medical/workers compensation files, training records and other employee records.
- Prepares reports, as requested.
- Responds to inquiries regarding benefits, retirements and other Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs.
- Maintains salaried and hourly attendance records.
- Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Ensures that the Exit Checklist is completed.
- Prepare information for the state Unemployment Agency.
- Attends Unemployment Hearings, as needed.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or equivalent degree.
- 3+ years related experience and/or training.

Pay
The typical hourly base salary for this position ranges from $25.72 - $42.44 in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
