Human Resources & Labor Relations Manager
About the Role
Are you an experienced Labor Relations leader who thrives in a union environment? As the Human Resources & Labor Relations Manager, you'll play a key role in leading labor relations strategy, supporting collective bargaining efforts, and partnering with leaders to navigate complex employee and union-related matters. This highly visible position serves as a trusted advisor on contract interpretation, grievance management, negotiations, and employee relations while helping drive a positive and productive workplace culture. We're seeking a candidate with hands-on experience in union negotiations, strong labor relations expertise, and the ability to influence outcomes through effective collaboration and strategic leadership. This is an onsite role based at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the design, planning, and implementation of human resources programs and policies to achieve the strategic business plans.
- Provides assistance, advice, and guidance to employees; coordinates provision of work-related dispute resolution services, including mediation, conciliation, negotiation, and formal arbitration.
- Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assists with the development and implementation of Human Resources initiatives.
- Develops and implements activities to automate and streamline processes for operational excellence, high reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Provides advice and professional support to Human Resources staff and others regarding interpretation and application of employee relations policies, practices, and procedures.
- Handles complex, high-profile operational issues.
- Interprets and provides guidance on the terms of collective bargaining agreements to ensure systemwide administrative compliance.
- Directs and leads labor negotiators during the collective bargaining process; develops and implements collective bargaining parameters, guidelines, and procedures.
- Researches, identifies, and interprets current and emerging employee and labor relations issues, trends, and opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of experience in human resources or labor relations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication; ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery.
- Frequent keyboard use and data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
