Human Resources Assistant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Human Resources (HR) Assistant to provide day-to-day support to a busy HR team in Benicia, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited for someone early in their HR career who wants practical experience across core administrative and employee support activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the HR team by maintaining records, preparing documents, and handling routine departmental tasks with accuracy and discretion.
  • Enter and update employee information in HR systems and spreadsheets to ensure personnel data remains complete, current, and reliable.
  • Organize and manage digital and paper files in accordance with company procedures and recordkeeping standards.
  • Aid with onboarding activities by preparing materials, tracking required documentation, and supporting new employee processing.
  • Support recruitment workflows by reviewing incoming resumes, forwarding candidate information to the appropriate stakeholders, and gathering internal feedback throughout the review process.
  • Care for pre-employment screening processing and help monitor pre-employment requirements to support timely staffing decisions.
  • Respond to general HR inquiries from employees and direct more complex matters to the appropriate team member.
  • Help support employee relations administration by documenting information, scheduling follow-ups, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Contribute to HR operational projects, including updates to processes or systems, as assigned by the department.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in HR administration, office support, or a related administrative role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and comfort working with employee data in multiple systems.
  • Ability to support onboarding activities and maintain accurate employment documentation.
  • Understanding of basic HR processes, including background checks and routine employee relations support.
  • Strong data entry, filing, and organizational skills with close attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
