About the role

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join a collaborative, professional, and fast-paced HR team. This is a great opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys being hands-on, supporting employees and leadership, and helping keep day-to-day HR operations running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, approachable, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling confidential information. You'll work closely with Directors and other leadership while supporting a wide range of HR functions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary front-facing contact for the HR Department, assisting employees, applicants, officials, and visitors.
  • Support the HR Director with calendar management, meeting coordination, communications, and department operations.
  • Process personnel actions including step increases, promotions, reclassifications, and employee status changes.
  • Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background checks, drug screenings, fingerprinting, and physical examinations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR records.
  • Conduct part-time employee orientations and provide backup support for recruiting and interviews.
  • Complete employment verifications and respond to employee and external inquiries.
  • Process and reconcile invoices while assisting with budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Coordinate employee recognition events, retirements, and professional milestone celebrations.
  • Evaluate HR processes and workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support HR compliance, reporting, and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of HR or related administrative experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong calendar management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with an ATS or HRIS/HCM system preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Professional, approachable, and service-oriented personality.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work independently.
  • Experience in a municipal or union environment is preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
