Human Resources Generalist
About the role
Tetra Tech is hiring a HR Generalist to support our Oil and Gas focused Engineering Consulting Team located in the Metro Denver Area. The HR Generalist is a key operational partner within Tetra Tech’s Human Resources team, serving as both the backbone of HR operations and a primary point of contact throughout the employee experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for professional, technical, and field positions, partnering with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop effective sourcing strategies.
- Create and post job advertisements, source and screen candidates, conduct interviews, facilitate offer development and negotiations, and manage pre-employment requirements through onboarding.
- Employee Questions: Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions across benefits, leave, policies, and general HR inquiries—delivering timely, accurate, and empathetic support.
- HR Administration and Lifecycle changes: Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, manage employee documentation, and support administrative tasks related to payroll, benefits, I-9's, and personnel files.
- Administer leave requests (FMLA, Colorado FAMLI, & other State or Federal leave programs).
- Benefits: Liaise with corporate benefits team to address employee questions on the benefits programs, including health insurance, 401(k) plans, Employee Share Plan and other employee programs.
- Aid in annual benefit enrollment questions.
- Help resolve benefit deduction discrepancies with corporate payroll and benefits team.
- Drug & Alcohol Program Administration: Administer and maintain company Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs in compliance with applicable federal, state, client, and company requirements, including DOT, NON-DOT, and client-specific regulations where applicable.
- Coverage of pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing for employees and candidates.
- Performance Management: Coordinate the annual performance review process. Partner with managers to provide coaching and support on performance management, including employee evaluations, goal setting, and feedback discussions.
- Employee Relations: With mentorship from the HR Manager, assist in addressing and resolving employee relations matters, facilitating conflict resolution, and supporting performance management processes.
- HR Administration and Lifecycle changes: Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, manage employee documentation, and support administrative tasks related to payroll, benefits, I-9's, and personnel files.
- Employee Engagement: Support employee engagement initiatives, monthly newsletter, employee recognition programs, events, and communication strategies to promote a strong company culture.
Qualifications
- 3-7 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, ideally with a broad range of HR responsibilities in a Coordinator, Generalist, or Advisor type role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification or desire to obtain certification is a plus.
- Thorough understanding of local, state and federal HR laws and regulations (i.e. FMLA, ADA, EEOC).
- Experience in Engineering, Consulting, Oil and Gas or related fields considered an asset.
- Experience with full cycle recruitment including using applicant tracking systems. Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter License and passive candidate sourcing is preferred.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information. The ability to exercise poise, tactfulness, and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
- Possess proactive, positive problem-solving skills and be an energetic, enthusiastic, collaborative team player.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or similar tools.
