About the role

This position reports to the Plant HR Manager and involves providing HR services and support to managers, administering HR policies, handling employee relations, and managing performance appraisal processes. The HR Generalist also plays a key role in benefits administration, workforce planning, employee engagement, and promoting a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with labor laws.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HR services and support to Arcosa managers, ensuring effective human resource management.
  • Conduct training sessions and investigate both informal and formal complaints to foster a fair and inclusive workplace.
  • Maintain accurate employee records with robust data privacy and security processes.
  • Serve as the central point for first-tier HR inquiries, including benefits programs, policies, performance management, employee grievances, policy interpretation, and new employee orientation.
  • Respond to employee and management queries regarding policies, processes, and other HR-related matters.
  • Implement and maintain departmental procedures, EEO/AA logs and reports, and personnel records to ensure compliance.
  • Enroll employees into programs and process new hire and benefit paperwork efficiently.
  • Provide general administrative support for daily departmental operations and training programs.
  • Manage new hire orientation and the record retention program, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Process and track information related to Leave of Absence, FMLA, Worker Compensation, and other leave issues.
  • Oversee the maintenance of personnel files and records, ensuring compliance with retention requirements.
  • Spearhead employee retention initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Potentially participate in confidential investigations of complex employee relations issues.
  • Prepare and represent the organization at unemployment hearings when required.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in supporting overall plant operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in an HR environment, demonstrating a robust understanding of human resource practices.
  • Capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a focus on Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with UltiPro or similar HR management systems.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and assess priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong proofreading and presentation abilities.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Burmese, Swahili) preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas, and plant grounds.
  • May require work/maintenance coverage beyond normal hours, shifts, and on weekends/holidays.
