About the role

The City of Ontario Human Resources/Risk Management Agency is seeking a self-driven, motivated, and talented human resources professional to fill a part-time Human Resources Coordinator position. The successful candidate will embody the Department's mission and vision as well as the qualities of a "Five Tool Player" - Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator, and Public Servant - and the principles of the City's Customer Service Philosophy – Empathy, Respect, and Problem Solving.

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Coordinator is a para-professional level position that performs and assists in a variety of administrative, technical, and analytical duties and responsibilities in support of the City's Human Resources/Risk Management functions. The essential functions typically performed by the Human Resources Coordinator include:

  • Providing technical and analytical support in the implementation of a variety of Human Resources/Risk Management programs and activities
  • Assisting in the administration of the City's employee benefits program
  • Conducting new hire benefit orientations and/or employee orientations
  • Assisting in the coordination of the City's Health and Wellness Program
  • Providing assistance in the monitoring and processing of employee leaves
  • Participating in and assisting with a range of recruitment and selection activities
  • Entering information into various human resources information systems and databases
  • Assisting in the research, data compilation, preparation, and analysis of reports and spreadsheets
  • Assisting in the preparation of and/or processing of a range of documents and forms
  • Providing assistance with the investigation of employee-related complaints and misconduct/performance issues
  • Assisting in the administration of the workers’ compensation and risk liability programs
  • Assisting with the analysis of classification and compensation studies and audits
  • Communicating with applicants, employees, Agency and Department Heads, retirees, and representatives from outside agencies regarding Human Resources/Risk Management matters

Qualifications

The qualification guidelines for this position include:

  • Education: Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, Risk Management, or a closely related field
  • Experience: Four years of technical experience in human resources, risk management. A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related field may substitute for up to two years of the required experience
  • Desirable: Experience with Microsoft Office, Workday, NEOGOV, and other software application programs

Benefits

Part-time/Temporary positions are scheduled to work no more than 29 hours per week and are not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.

Schedule

This current part-time role will provide coverage during normal business hours for the Human Resources / Risk Management office, which are Monday - Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm & Friday 8am to 5pm. However, hours may vary outside of normal business hours due to support/attendance of city events/training.
