About the Role

This position is located at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and involves processing applicants for entry into the military service.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS; provide identification tags.
  • Fingerprint applicants using automated systems.
  • Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final processing of forms and records.
  • Perform record management of electronic and paper applicant records.
  • Cross-train to assist other sections in the organization when required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Must successfully complete applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training within 30 days of entering the position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must meet proficiency as a qualified typist (40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors).

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet one of the following:

  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, which includes:
    • Utilizing office automation software to update account information.
    • Obtaining data from applicants for completion of personnel records.
    • Maintaining applicant records in accordance with an established filing system.
    • Utilizing appropriate formatting to create written correspondence and/or documents.

    This experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

  • Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute:
    • Divide total months of experience by 12.
    • Divide semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
    • Add the two percentages.

If using foreign education to qualify, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program. More information.
