  • Onboarding and offboarding: Manage agreements, documentation, system access, orientation, and transition processes.
  • HR policies and records: Develop and maintain policies, standard operating procedures, volunteer records, organizational charts, and other people-related documentation.
  • Performance management: Build practical processes for goal setting, feedback cycles, check-ins, recognition, and support for underperforming team members.
  • Workforce planning: Partner with leadership and team leads on role design, team structure, retention, and volunteer engagement.
  • Culture and engagement: Support a positive and inclusive remote culture through team check-ins, engagement initiatives, conflict resolution, and clear communication.
  • HR reporting: Track metrics such as headcount, vacancies, onboarding completion, engagement, and retention, and translate findings into recommendations.
  • Compliance: Help ensure HR practices align with applicable laws, nonprofit best practices, privacy expectations, and Virufy policies.
  • Team leadership: Guide and mentor HR volunteers or interns and coordinate priorities across the HR function.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in human resources, people operations, talent management, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee or volunteer relations, and HR policy development.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with close attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse, globally distributed team.
  • Sound judgment, empathy, and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive matters.
  • Comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and managing multiple priorities in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Slack. Experience with applicant-tracking or HR information systems is a plus.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in a nonprofit, startup, healthcare, research, or volunteer-led organization.
  • Experience managing or mentoring HR team members.
  • Familiarity with US employment law and international volunteer management.
  • Experience supporting organizational design, workforce planning, or HR analytics.

Time commitment

10 to 15 hours per week for at least 6 months. Flexible remote schedule, with attendance at a weekly team meeting and regular responsiveness through Slack and email. Some overlap with US time zones is preferred.
