Human Resources Assistant
This position provides administrative support to the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) and Health Sciences & Technology (HS&T), assisting with personnel records, leave administration, wage payroll, HR correspondence, and processing HR documentation while maintaining employee records in accordance with university policies.
About the role
The HR Assistant supports a variety of HR functions, including maintaining employee directories, monthly leave records, assisting the Senior HR Manager with new hire documentation, processing wage time entry, communicating deadlines to ensure compliance, and performing other related duties as assigned. This role also supports onboarding and offboarding activities, daily HR operations, and compliance with university and departmental processes. Opportunities for professional growth and expanded responsibilities are available, including program coordination, process improvement initiatives, and additional HR projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain personnel records and employee directories
- Assist with leave administration and monthly leave records
- Support new hire documentation and onboarding activities
- Process wage time entry and payroll-related tasks
- Communicate deadlines to ensure compliance with HR policies
- Support offboarding activities and daily HR operations
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience working in a demanding, fast-paced environment
- High level of organization and time management skills to handle time-sensitive and competing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact respectfully with all individuals
- Proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships and maintain a team-based approach
- Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential matters professionally and discreetly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and standard office technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of experience supporting human resources functions
- Experience with payroll, human resources, and/or employee onboarding
- Experience using HRIS, applicant tracking systems, Banner, PageUp, or similar platforms
Pay
Starting at $42,000, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Non-exempt: eligible for overtime
