About the role
The Human Resources Assistant is an entry-level position responsible for providing administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, this position assists with employee onboarding and offboarding, leave administration, HRIS maintenance, personnel records management, and other routine HR functions.
Responsibilities
- Aid in new hire onboarding and employee offboarding processes.
- Coordinate pre-employment activities such as background checks, drug screens, and new hire documentation.
- Prepare onboarding materials and facilitate new hire orientation.
- Process employee separations and maintain offboarding documentation.
- Administer employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, Military Leave, Personal Leave, and other company-approved leaves.
- Assist employees with initiating and managing Short-Term Disability (STD) claims.
- Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and update employee information within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), including personnel changes.
- Respond to routine employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and leave processes, referring complex matters to the Human Resources Manager.
- Support the Human Resources Manager and assist with HR projects as assigned.
- Maintain the confidentiality of employee information and Human Resources records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn Human Resources policies, procedures, employment laws, and HRIS systems.
- Basic knowledge of employment laws, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, and HR best practices is preferred.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous administrative, customer service, or office support experience preferred. Human Resources internship or prior HR experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience: Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred. Experience with an HRIS, preferably Paycom, is preferred.
