Human Resources Assistant

About the Role

Join our Human Resources team as a dedicated professional supporting the entire employee lifecycle—from recruitment and classification to benefits and payroll. You will work with cutting-edge state systems like Kronos, NeoGov, and OASIS, serving as the go-to expert for new and current staff navigating essential processes. This role ensures clear communication and flawlessly maintained records while also requiring a mandatory weekly 12-hour security shift to support facility safety.

Responsibilities

• Support the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, classification, benefits, and payroll.
• Assist staff in navigating HR processes using systems like Kronos, NeoGov, and OASIS.
• Maintain accurate and organized employee records.
• Perform a mandatory weekly 12-hour security shift to ensure facility safety.
• Handle additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of full-time or part-time equivalent paid clerical experience, with at least one (1) year in a support or paraprofessional role in human resources, payroll, bookkeeping, or accounting.
• Ability to substitute education for experience at the rate of one (1) year of experience for each thirty (30) semester hours of education from an accredited institution.
• A valid driver’s license may be required.

Pay

In accordance with SPB 3088, an additional $5,000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Employees in this classification will also receive an annual base-building pay differential of $250 after completing one year of service. If an employee leaves a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF), the $5,000 differential will be removed unless transferring to another CVPF.

Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center).
