The Human Resources and Payroll Specialist is a remote, contract role responsible for supporting small business clients with day-to-day HR and multi-state payroll activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage employee data and process payroll across multiple states
• Ensure adherence to applicable labor laws and company policies
• Administer benefits
• Assist with onboarding and offboarding
• Respond to employee inquiries
• Maintain accurate HR and payroll records
• Collaborate with clients to implement HR policies
• Troubleshoot payroll issues
• Recommend process improvements that enhance compliance and efficiency

Qualifications

• Strong Human Resources (HR) and HR Management skills
• Knowledge of HR Policies and Employee Benefits administration
• Experience in Personnel Management and employee relations
• Proficiency in multi-state payroll processing and basic payroll tax concepts
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage confidential information appropriately
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment

Skills

• Experience supporting small businesses or working in a consulting or client-facing role is beneficial
• Familiarity with HRIS and payroll software; certification in HR or payroll (e.g., SHRM, CPP) is a plus
