About the role
The Human Resource Manager oversees all aspects of human resources for a growing construction company. This is a standalone leadership position for an experienced HR professional who enjoys building relationships, navigating employee relations, ensuring compliance, and supporting a union workforce.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and hire employees through union halls
- Dispatch employees to various projects
- Manage employee relations and terminations
- Support workforce ramp-ups and reductions as projects begin and end
- Oversee HR policies, employee records, and compliance with employment laws
- Administer recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and new hire setups
- Handle disciplinary actions, performance documentation, and terminations
- Manage payroll administration, timecards, and leave tracking
- Cook up benefits, open enrollment, and employee benefit inquiries
- Manage workers’ compensation and safety training
- Prepare HR compliance reports
- Support union workforce administration, including dispatch coordination and grievances
- Maintain DOT driver qualification files and employee training records
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of California HR laws and best practices
- Experience with payroll processes and HR administration
- Approximately 5 years of relevant experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required
- A high school diploma is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred
- Experience in the construction industry is required
- Experience with Sage 100 Contractor is preferred
- Union experience is preferred
