PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION
Health Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Manager – Develop and Implement HSSE systems throughout the organization. Provide HSSE Guidance and Feedback to Management and Staff alike. Track and Trend HSSE Data provide Organization with Leading and Lagging Metrics. Promote HSSE and communication across all disciplines. Work Schedule 5x2, on call 24/7, Salary Negotiable - includes car allowance and full benefits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote health and safety within a work environment
- Develop and Implement HSSE systems and Programs
- Trend HSSE Data and provide communication of data to Management
- Lead Organization to achieve HSSE Goals
- Respond immediately to workplace incidents when called to do so by Operations, remain on call and ready to respond during designated intervals as part of the “responder” on call group, and when not “on call”, respond when called upon in cases where multiple incidents may be occurring, the on call responder cannot respond, and other situations as needed.
- Assist injured employees in getting the most appropriate medical care reasonably possible through company occupational physicians and managing the care so as to prevent unnecessary OSHA recordability.
- Analyze workplaces and design initiatives to control, eliminate, and prevent injuries
- Inspect workplaces to investigate whether they are in compliance with state and federal laws or company or client safety and environmental policies
- Conduct analyses on the effectiveness of safety and health programs
- Identify hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public
- Help develop new safety practices, conduct training sessions for field employees and management, and monitor and assess the program's progress
- Develop and effectively deliver safety meeting topics appropriate to the current field force
- Investigate the cause workplace accidents or illnesses
- Using approved methods, forms, & processes to conduct Root Cause Analyses of workplace incidents as directed
- Maintain workplace schedule on shared Safety Department calendar by inviting the “calendar” to your workday activities
- Following workplace accidents or illnesses, develop corrective action plans and follow-up to completion
- May also assist with the rehabilitation of workers in compliance with Workers’ Compensation and Longshoreman’s Act requirements
- Prepare accident reports, workplace injury trend analyses, Occupational Safety and Health Administration forms, and initiatives for control and correction of hazardous conditions
- May also give testimony in court and write policies, procedures, and manuals regarding occupational health and safety systems
- Attend local, industry safety meetings as a member of groups such as ASSE, GCSTG, etc.
- Perform other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Demonstrate ability to provide management, organize safety activities effectively, and provide impeccable customer support and relations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, and strong organization, detail and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate project management skills, including facility in managing and prioritizing projects with multiple and often competing deadlines, and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work independently, to work under supervision, and to work in a team-based and goal-oriented environment
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations, with sensitivity to issues concerning all disabilities
- Must possess proficient knowledge of safety strategies, laws, and regulations
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
- Able to work effectively with a broad range of people and other departments and needs to be an effective team player
- Must be able to professionally partner with members of senior management
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years relevant employee HSE supervisory experience
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, human resources, business, or a related field or equivalent experience required
- Self-starter with good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
