About the role

This role is responsible for strategic development and planned implementation of risk reduction, injury prevention, security protocols, and safety and environmental compliance initiatives. Success in the role requires collaboration with members of the Leadership Teams to ensure policies and procedures are executed effectively throughout each level of the organization to drive a Safety Culture that strives for excellence in the HSSE and Risk space.

Position duties are HSSE in the following functional areas: safety and environmental regulatory compliance, safety training and education, safety inspections, incident analysis, environmental reporting, emergency preparedness, and management of the established Safety and Risk Management Process (SRMP). This position reports to the Director of Safety and Risk and directs a broad range of activities supporting one of the company’s key core strategic anchors: Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate site-specific HSSE programs and processes such as targeted role-specific training, compliance audits, driver safety observations, risk assessments of various exposure points, job hazard assessments to develop solutions for frontline employee risk exposure, and policy implementation and regulation.
  • Develop and implement Corporate HSSE Policies, Standards, and Procedures, including creation and updates.
  • Lead divisional focus and improvement teams to address identified hazards from research data collected from near-miss reports, incidents, and safety committee discussions.
  • Act as technical advisor to operational personnel and other functional teams to facilitate continual HSSE improvements toward regulatory success and proactive risk management.
  • Serve as Lead HSSE Auditor, conducting cross-business-unit audits with report preparation, communication, corrective action tracking for audits and incidents, and trend analysis to develop proactive strategies.
  • Provide HSSE coaching and mentoring for operational personnel to achieve regulatory success and risk mitigation through site-specific HSSE teams and continuous support.
  • Lead regulatory planning and change management initiatives to identify HSSE issues and opportunities, aiming to eliminate and control risks across multiple layers of the business as it expands into new lines of business.
  • Analyze current and potential company operations to identify risks.
  • Develop methods and procedures for HSSE metrics that provide analytical data to indicate regulatory success and mitigate overall risk exposure.
  • Develop and drive a foundational culture embodying Safety as a core strategic anchor through an active presence at all organizational levels as a resource for employee health and safety.
  • Provide leadership, build alliances with internal and external partners, and offer technical and analytical support in areas of expertise.
  • Provide role and goal clarity to each business unit and support them in achieving their goals.

  • Strengthen internal communications with staff at all levels and create a positive, supportive work environment.
  • Remain adaptable to restructuring as business demands change.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental, or related major (professional degree preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in Safety, Risk Management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in multi-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Operates in a professional office environment.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit for long periods, talk, and hear.
  • Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers, with the ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasional lifting of office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
