About the role

The HR Specialist – Operations is responsible for providing human resources consultation to designated business units. This position partners directly with site operational teams to define and execute HR strategies that align with business objectives and key initiatives, analyzes trends, and leads organizational assessments that convert strategies into result-driven actions. The role also provides change-management support and acts as a liaison with other HR functions, with a focus on Recruiting.

Responsibilities

  • Implements HR initiatives that support company goals and drive a positive employee experience in partnership with operational leaders, including workforce planning, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Acts as an advisor to business functions, collaborating with leaders to understand people needs and challenges and providing insights and recommendations on HR-related issues that impact business performance.
  • Oversees all station recruitment activities in line with business demands and requirements, including rehiring of candidates during peak periods.
  • Manages staffing approvals for assigned business units and raises offer letters and contracts of employment.
  • Implements change management strategies, communicating changes to employees and ensuring workforce engagement and support throughout transitions.
  • Promotes a positive workplace culture and enhances employee engagement by implementing programs and initiatives that promote satisfaction, retention, and overall well-being.
  • Manages leaves of absence and accommodations and oversees employee engagement with site management.
  • May be assigned duties not directly related to the HR function during times of low activity to meet business demands elsewhere, requiring flexibility.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated understanding and application of HR-related principles, practices, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Proven ability to drive change and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment within a matrixed organization.
  • Trusted advisor with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Organized and self-motivated with the ability to build and maintain solid relationships; confidence to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Active listener and excellent persuader to advise operations on necessary changes; collaborates with management to apply firm and HR functional knowledge, identifying and prioritizing problems requiring solutions.
  • Communicates effectively and develops and delivers multi-mode communications tailored to different audiences.
  • Acts on people data to ensure confidentiality, completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company policy and legislative requirements.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills; patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to motivate and manage staff; professionalism and an overall positive attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt, and operate at all levels when working under pressure.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, human resources, or related field preferred; can be complemented with 3+ years of experience at Inland, preferably in Human Resources.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to employee relations.
  • PHR/SHRM designation considered an asset.
