HR Operations Intern
The world's biggest industries are broken. Let's fix it. We are a team of engineers, product designers, and customer champions applying the most transformative technology of our time — AI — to two of the world's largest and most overlooked industries: freight and B2B distribution. Our mission is to automate the manual, repetitive work that holds operations teams back and free them to focus on what actually moves the needle. We're looking for driven, curious people who thrive in fast-moving environments and want to make a real dent in the world. If you're excited about AI that can reason and act like a human, in some of the most complex industries on earth — come grow with us.
About The Role
Augment is building AI-powered tools for software engineers, and our People Operations team keeps the engine running behind the scenes. As our HR Operations Intern, you'll work directly alongside our HR Manager to support the day-to-day workflows that power our team: onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and employee experience across our Chicago, San Francisco, and Toronto offices. This role is based in Chicago or the greater Midwest region. This is a hands-on role — you'll be working in real systems, supporting real processes, and getting a ground-level view of how a high-growth tech company runs its people function.

- Help track new hire onboarding progress and flag anything that needs attention before a start date
- Coordinate equipment ordering and follow up on delivery status for incoming employees
- Monitor completion of required new hire training and send reminders as needed

- Research state-specific HR requirements as we hire in new locations
- Maintain internal HR documentation and process guides

- Follow up with new hires who haven't completed benefits enrollment and connect them with resources
- Absorb monthly benefits invoice reconciliation — pulling headcount reports and cross-checking enrollments
- Absorb payroll-adjacent processes including preparing employee roster updates and census files
- Help process leave pay documentation under HR Manager guidance
HRIS & Data Management
- Maintain and update employee records and internal HR trackers
- Help prepare weekly and monthly reports used for payroll, benefits, and compliance
- Keep internal HR documentation organized and current

That insight became our mission—to free logistics professionals from busywork so they can focus on what truly drives business growth. Augment isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about transforming an entire industry by empowering teams with AI-driven solutions that make logistics smarter, faster, and more adaptive. Join us on this journey!
