HR Generalist/Recruiter
Landmark Construction is seeking an HR Generalist/Recruiter to lead full-cycle recruiting for a growing utility, grading, concrete, and industrial services construction company. This role partners with hiring managers and operational leaders to identify staffing needs, develop recruitment strategies, source qualified candidates, and ensure a positive candidate experience from initial contact through onboarding.
About the role
The ideal candidate will have experience recruiting skilled trades, field leadership, and corporate staff in a fast-paced construction environment. This position plays a key role in supporting workforce planning initiatives and ensuring the company attracts top talent to meet current and future business demands. This is a salaried position reporting to the Human Resources Director. Successful pre-employment background check and drug screen are required.
Responsibilities
- Support and follow LMC’s Health, Safety & Environmental Program, X Factors, Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace, and Harassment Free Workplace.
- Use all personal protective equipment (PPE) needed for the job and set an example for workplace safety.
- Manage full-cycle recruiting activities for field and corporate positions, including utilities, grading, concrete, industrial, and construction-related roles.
- Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates through job boards, social media, networking events, employee referrals, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, workforce development partnerships, and industry organizations.
- Source, screen resumes, and conduct phone, virtual, and in-person interviews.
- Coordinate hiring manager interviews, facilitate candidate evaluations, extend employment offers, and negotiate compensation within approved guidelines.
- Maintain an active pipeline of skilled craft professionals and construction talent.
- Partner with project managers, superintendents, operations leaders, and department managers to understand workforce needs and participate in workforce planning meetings.
- Provide recruiting metrics and hiring status updates to management and advise on recruitment best practices and labor market trends.
- Represent the company at job fairs, career expos, trade school events, and community recruiting initiatives.
- Develop relationships with vocational schools, technical colleges, workforce development agencies, veterans' organizations, and industry associations.
- Promote the company's employment brand through social media and recruiting campaigns.
- Maintain accurate candidate records within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and ensure compliance with EEO, FLSA, DOT, and other applicable employment regulations.
- Coordinate pre-employment screenings, background checks, drug testing, and onboarding requirements.
- Prepare recruiting reports and maintain recruitment metrics, including time-to-fill, source effectiveness, and turnover trends.
- Coordinate pre-employment activities and onboarding processes, assist new hires in completing employment documentation, and partner with HR and operations teams for smooth transitions.
- Perform a variety of routine and complex administrative tasks related to employee management.
- Work closely with LMC Management, Superintendents, Project Managers, and Foremen on employee relations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- 3+ years of recruiting experience, preferably within construction, utilities, industrial, manufacturing, engineering, or skilled trades environments.
- Experience recruiting hourly craft labor and salaried construction professionals.
- Knowledge of recruiting techniques, sourcing strategies, and applicant tracking systems.
- Strong interviewing and candidate assessment skills.
- Experience with workforce development programs, apprenticeship programs, and trade school partnerships.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple requisitions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and recruiting platforms such as Indeed, LinkedIn Recruiter, and ATS software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites, hiring events, and company locations as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to construction sites, career fairs, and recruiting events.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
