Responsibilities
- Conduct a thorough review of paper and digital employee records to evaluate compliance accuracy and documentation completeness.
- Perform detailed I-9 audits and identify gaps, missing information, or corrective actions needed to reduce organizational risk.
- Assess current HR practices and uncover vulnerabilities related to recordkeeping, compliance standards, and employee administration.
- Recommend policy improvements and provide guidance on developing or refining HR procedures that support a stronger compliance foundation.
- Partner with a small internal HR team to prioritize audit findings and support implementation of practical corrective measures.
- Examine existing handbook content and contribute to revisions or new content that aligns with current employment practices and legal requirements.
- Prepare organized findings, maintain clear audit documentation, and communicate recommendations to leadership with minimal supervision.
- Apply sound judgment and independent analysis to address compliance issues in a hands-on onsite environment five days per week.
Requirements
- 10+ years of human resources experience, including work in HR business partnership, compliance, or audit-focused roles.
- Demonstrated success conducting HR compliance reviews, operational audits, or document-based assessments with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong knowledge of I-9 requirements, personnel file management, and employment documentation standards.
- Ability to work independently, identify risk areas proactively, and deliver recommendations with little to no oversight.
- Experience drafting, revising, or advising on employee handbooks, HR policies, and related documentation.
- Background in employee relations, HR administration, performance management, and workplace investigations is preferred.
- Experience in the construction or transportation industry is preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred but not required.
