About The Role Reporting directly to the Assistant Human Resources Director of Staff Operations, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a strategic role within the Ross School of Business. This position is responsible for providing expert HR consultation and support to an assigned portfolio of units comprising approximately 150 staff members. The HRBP acts as a subject matter expert in staff operations, workforce planning, analytics, and compensation strategies, ensuring alignment with the university’s goals and policies. The role involves partnering with department leaders on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and organizational effectiveness initiatives. The HRBP serves as a trusted advisor, offering technical support, policy interpretation, and strategic guidance to foster a positive, compliant, and productive work environment. This is a hybrid position based in Ann Arbor, MI, offering flexibility to balance on-site and remote work arrangements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum of 5+ years of professional HR experience, including exposure to employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and HR program implementation.Experience working with compensation structures and conducting compensation analysis.Proven ability to collaborate effectively with leaders and decision-makers across multiple organizational levels.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Office tools, AI integration, and email platforms for communication and reporting.Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations. Responsibilities Serve as a strategic HR partner to assigned units, providing consultative support to leaders and managers on workforce planning, employee relations, and organizational development.Coordinate with the Assistant HR Director on complex matters such as workplace investigations, labor relations, and leadership development initiatives.Manage workforce planning activities, including hiring, job design, staff development, and performance management processes.Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and utilize data analytics to inform decision-making and support unit goals.Lead workforce analytics efforts, support compensation program reviews, and assist in annual budget planning activities.Analyze workforce trends and provide data-driven recommendations to enhance organizational effectiveness.Assist with salary planning, benchmarking, and internal equity reviews, ensuring fair and competitive compensation practices.Maintain a general understanding of university benefit programs and legal requirements related to employment.Recommend process improvements to enhance HR service delivery and departmental efficiency.Update HR information systems, generate reports, and support HR projects to meet organizational needs.Build and maintain strong relationships with HR partners across schools and units, fostering collaboration and best practices.Partner with finance staff and business units to align workforce strategies with budget constraints and operational priorities.Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department’s objectives and initiatives.
