HR Business Administrator
KOIN 6 TV/Portland’s CW, a Nexstar Media Inc. owned CBS and CW duopoly in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a highly organized and discreet Human Resources/Business Administrator.
About the Role
This role is a unique blend of finance, accounting, and human resources administration, serving as a trusted partner to station leadership, corporate teams, and employees. Reporting directly to the Vice President & General Manager, this position plays a critical role in supporting payroll, accounts payable, and HR operations while ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and a positive employee experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment. Responsibilities
- Maintain employee personnel/HR files
- Administer employment processes: benefits, onboarding/orientation, leave benefits, employee verifications, and management of payroll
- Maintain EEO compliance reports
- Manage worker’s comp and auto insurance claims
- Prepare and submit monthly operational reports such as station corporate credit card
- Distribute monthly financial reports
- Handle all aspects of accounts payable
- Liaise with senior leadership and corporate staff
- Organize and direct station employee events
- Manage all employee/vendor/trade contracts
- Oversee station fleet and employee gas cards
- Attend and contribute to weekly department head meetings
- Buy and stock station supplies
- Other duties as assigned
Human Resources Operations
- Manage employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, orientation, benefits administration, and leave of absence tracking
- Maintain employee personnel records in compliance with federal, state, and company requirements
- Partner with regional HR to support employee relations, policy interpretation, and HR initiatives
- Assist with regulatory reporting, including EEO compliance requirements
- Manage workers’ compensation and auto insurance claims
Finance & Payroll
- Process payroll and support payroll-related inquiries
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable, including invoice coding and processing via DocLink
- Support monthly financial close in partnership with regional finance teams
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial and operational reports
- Track corporate credit card activity and submit required reports
Office & Administrative Operations
- Oversee office operations, including supply management, vendor coordination, and facility-related needs
- Organize and support employee engagement activities and station events
- Manage vendor and service contracts
- Oversee fleet gas card program
- Supervise administrative support staff, including performance guidance and workflow prioritization
Compliance & Labor Relations
- Support union-related processes, including meeting coordination, note-taking, and documentation preparation
- Assist with information requests and reporting related to collective bargaining agreements
- Support FCC reporting and public file requirements
Requirements & Qualifications
Required:
- 3–5 years of experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or Office Management
- Strong working knowledge of HR processes, payroll, and accounts payable
- High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust across all levels
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Familiarity with Workday, DocLink, or similar systems
- Experience supporting financial reporting or budget tracking

Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced newsroom and office environment with frequent changes in priorities and deadlines. The position requires regular use of computers, phone communication, and collaboration with both on-site and remote teams.
Pay
Salary Range: $60,000 – $75,000 annually (dependent on experience)
