Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, a leading global law firm with offices in strategic hubs across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking an HR Assistant to support the Labor and Employment practice group in HR policy administration, record-keeping, and employee support.
About the role
This position reports to the Manager, HRBP and supports the attorney population under close supervision. The role offers a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule and can reside out of the Philadelphia or Boston offices.
Responsibilities
- General HR
- Assist the HRBP, larger HR team, and practice groups on various special projects.
- Field and answer questions related to payroll, benefits, vacation, hours, and other HR inquiries.
- Organize and update tracking systems and documents to improve efficiency.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to attorney day-to-day operations to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Onboarding and Departures
- Arrange new hire check-in meetings and 45-day check-ins.
- Assist with voluntary and involuntary separation processes, including processing departures and relevant logistics.
- Coordinate with Local HR to confirm the collection of firm property, security badges, and keys upon departure.
- Employee Relations
- Liaise with HRBPs, management, and employees to provide support as requested.
- Assist with annual and mid-year attorney and legal staff evaluation processes.
- Support the firm’s management principles, policies, and programs to ensure fair application.
- Assist with memo and document preparation for personnel actions at the direction of the Manager, HRBP.
- Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential human resource files, records, and documentation.
- Assist with employment verification processes upon escalation.
- Complete local I-9 processes for new hires and departures and support HRBP with immigration issues as needed.
- Liaise with Local HR, Attorney Recruiting, Talent Acquisition, and/or Compliance departments to ensure proper filing of personnel records.
- Support HRBP with bar membership compliance and employment verifications.
- HRIS
- Prepare Workday notifications for all attorney actions and updates.
- Work with HR Shared Services to ensure timely and accurate processing of HRIS transactions.
- Assist attorneys with systems-related questions and generate relevant reports.
- Run reports for HRBPs as requested.
- Special Projects
- Contribute to firm and HR projects as assigned.
- Liaise with HRBPs and Centers of Excellence (Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Compliance, HRIS, Compensation) to provide support in areas such as performance evaluations, transaction requests, employee relations, and recruiting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field preferred.
- Ideally one year of Human Resources experience, preferably in the professional services industry.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Excellent organizational skills and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Workday.
- High energy, self-motivated, and results-oriented.
- Confident manner with the ability to establish credibility quickly.
- Ability to work comfortably in a matrix organization.
- Ability to handle adversity and difficult situations positively.
- Team player who can establish trust with all levels of personnel.
Pay
For positions in Boston, MA, the salary range for this position is $53,200.00 - $85,150.00.
