Housing Stability Coordinator

About the role

Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is one of Minnesota’s oldest African American-founded nonprofits serving a multi-cultural community of more than 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. The organization is a major resource hub expanding services within the South Minneapolis community.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Support and Documentation (85%)

    • Intake of participants
    • Examining participant income and family composition
    • Providing housing information and assistance
    • Inspecting units for compliance and housing quality standards (HQS)
    • Processing rental payments to landlords
  • Internal Support (10%)

    • Works closely with Sabathani’s CFO to process rental assistance payments
    • Develop or refine internal processes to ensure efficiency in communication and programming
    • Represents and promotes Sabathani’s mission and programs in a variety of public settings
    • Educates Sabathani staff about referral, the application requirements, and application process
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

    • Other miscellaneous tasks as directed

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor's degree in human services, social work or related field, preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in housing or social services
    • Experience working in a nonprofit setting preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

    • Willingness to learn a variety of tasks

    • Possesses the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines
    • Understands the importance of customer service and professionalism
    • Knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of lower socioeconomic conditions
    • Demonstrates skills in conflict management
    • Competency or the ability to quickly learn QuickBooks (Intuit Software) and Sales Force platforms
    • Competency in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
    • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the public
    • Must use good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority
    • Ability to travel to sites within 30-mile radius of the office
  • Licenses And/or Certifications

    • Valid MN Drivers’ License
    • Access to reliable transportation
    • The ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements
