WeGo Together for Kids is seeking a Housing Navigator to assist West Chicago families in identifying housing and resources that support a stable and thriving environment, primarily focusing on families with school-aged children to reduce disruptive moves.
About the role
This is a grant-funded, part-time position averaging 20 hours per week, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 case management support on housing-related issues, including finding new housing, understanding eviction notices, tenant rights and responsibilities, and landlord responsibilities.
- Assist families with housing applications and understanding leases.
- Educate and empower families to advocate for themselves with landlords and housing providers.
- Develop and maintain a network with West Chicago landlords, property owners, and property management companies.
- Create a database of West Chicago housing options.
- Refer families to other partners and resources as needed.
- Collect and track participant information for data reporting and assess and report the program’s community impact.
- Assist in distributing rental assistance funds.
- Participate in monthly WGTK partner meetings (first Thursdays, 9-11 am).
- Attend community events to share resources.
Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages, orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience in social services, human services, or a related field with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Solid problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Experience in recruiting and networking.
- Demonstrated skill in organizing time and prioritizing workload.
- Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with leases, local, state, and federal housing laws, and renter’s rights.
Pay
Salary is $24,960 per year.
