Pay

Starting salary for position is within $54,454.73 - $82,770.75 annually.

About the Role

Under direct supervision of the Community Development Manager or designee, performs specialized duties to coordinate more effective social and mental health service distribution to Hollywood residents. The Social Services Coordinator develops programs that identify available resources suited to provide assistance to citizens requiring these services. Also performs a variety of administrative duties relating to housing programs, including the housing rehabilitation program.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a social services directory as a comprehensive list of agencies that provide services
  • Identifies residents with social needs and coordinates appropriate services by tracking the proper agency and coordinating contact between the resident and agency
  • Conducts individualized counseling on topics including health care, child care, home purchase procedures, property care and maintenance, money management, and life skills
  • Directs residents to appropriate agencies for assistance
  • Develops program policy and procedures in partnership with Police, Fire, Code Enforcement, Neighborhood Resource Specialist, Housing Rehabilitation staff, and others for a centralized source of information for individuals in need
  • Organizes links to social service agencies best suited to provide assistance to citizens
  • Monitors service provider compliance with applicable standards of care
  • Provides technical assistance to neighborhood associations to enable grassroots groups to help direct residents to social services assistance
  • Reviews and interprets local, state, and federal housing laws, rules, and regulations
  • Accepts and processes applications for housing rehabilitation and other housing programs; interviews applicants to determine eligibility and verifies information submitted
  • Sets up applicant files, prioritizes applications, and notifies applicants of status
  • Responds to inquiries about housing services programs from existing and potential clients
  • Maintains and secures client information and records in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Composes letters and reports, establishes and maintains files, and performs administrative functions related to service delivery
  • Prepares mandated reports regarding program activities
  • Represents the City effectively and positively in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation
  • Establishes and maintains effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers, and the public
  • Performs related work as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or related field
  • Two years of responsible experience in health, social services, and housing field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license with proof of automobile insurance
  • Acceptable background record and driving abstract

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years of responsible experience in health, social services, and housing field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • HUD Training Certificates

Skills

  • Knowledge of all phases of case management dealing with health care and social service needs
  • Knowledge of social service programs utilized to provide assistance to families
  • Knowledge of private, non-profit, and other public agencies providing health care and social services
  • Ability to speak publicly and conduct workshops
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with agencies, City departments, and families requiring assistance
  • Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Understanding of human relationships
  • Ability to engage and communicate with diverse populations
  • Ability to create and maintain professional helping relationships
  • Knowledge of regulations governing standards of privacy and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures governing housing rehabilitation programs
  • Skill in interpreting and communicating housing services program regulations and guidelines
  • Proficiency in use of computers and basic software applications

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, and speak
  • Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • May require use of fingers or hands to manipulate objects such as picking, gripping, or pressing
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an office environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to evolving goals, priorities, and needs.
