Housing Advocate - Champlain Place - Overnight shift

About the role

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) seeks a Housing Advocate to provide support and empowerment to individuals experiencing homelessness at the Champlain Place Emergency Shelter in Burlington, Vermont.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed support to emergency housing guests and others experiencing homelessness.
• Work with clients to secure housing and access essential benefits.
• Refer clients to employment, medical, mental health, and substance use disorder services.
• Collaborate with community partners to assist clients in accessing housing and social services.
• Address barriers to housing and work with partner agencies to resolve these issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in social or human services or equivalent experience.
• In-depth knowledge of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, and related issues.
• Experience in advocacy and service provision to economically vulnerable groups.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, computer, and data entry skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Willingness and ability to travel within the CVOEO service area.

Qualifications

• Bilingual skills are a plus.

Schedule
