Housekeeping Intern (Temporary: Hotel Rooms Operations)

About the role

As the Housekeeping Intern, you will work with the Housekeeping Manager to assist in supervising the housekeeping team, ensuring product quality standards are met and optimal service is provided to hotel guests in alignment with hotel and company business objectives. In addition to inspecting rooms and training room attendants, you will perform cleaning duties throughout the hotel and deliver clean rooms for occupancy that meet the brand’s time, product, and placement standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all guest and client interactions.
• Manage according to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all hotel associates.
• Partner with the Housekeeping Manager to recruit, develop, manage, and monitor performance; recommend disciplinary or other HR-related actions as needed.
• Inspect all assigned suites and public areas to ensure furnishings, guest suites, equipment, linens, and public areas are clean and in good repair to meet guest expectations; advise employees of deficiencies and provide retraining as needed.
• Assist with training employees and ensure they have the tools and equipment needed to carry out their job duties effectively.
• Assist with scheduling and room cleaning assignments to ensure proper coverage.
• Perform all necessary housekeeping duties, including cleaning guest suites and hotel public spaces, to ensure guest satisfaction and meet owner expectations.
• Partner with the Housekeeping Manager to inventory and maintain par levels for linen and room supplies.
• Monitor commercial laundry supplies and equipment to ensure they are sufficient and in working order.
• Manage procedures for lost and found items.
• Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departmental management.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding health and safety services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus two years of housekeeping experience, including some supervisory training or experience.
• Previous background in the extended-stay industry preferred.
• Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English; additional languages are beneficial.
• Reading and writing abilities required to document tasks, order supplies, receive instructions, and read equipment manuals, including safety information.
• Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
• Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
• Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Frequently standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility.
• Regular use of commercial cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to carry, lift, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

Hourly compensation range: $20.00 - $25.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and overall experience.
