About the role
Responsible for a variety of housekeeping duties in and around the hospital to provide a clean and sanitary environment. Assists where necessary and performs all other duties as requested.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and performs assigned tasks in designated areas according to department procedures.
- Fills out assignment completion report daily and communicates pertinent information to the shift supervisor.
- Reports cleaning needs, maintenance, repairs, and other concerns in high-visibility areas to the shift supervisor.
- Responds to customer cleaning requests in a timely manner.
- Performs daily patient room cleaning and discharge cleaning according to Environmental Services procedures.
- Collects and transfers trash and soiled linen from the hospital to designated areas.
- Empties waste receptacles and linen holders in designated areas.
- Cleans trash and linen collection carts to ensure dirty carts are never used in the hospital.
- Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mops floors in designated areas.
- Auto-washes, machine scrubs, burnishes, vacuums, or periodically polishes floors with appropriate equipment.
- Washes walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, cabinets, and other plumbing fixtures by hand using water, cleaning solutions, sponges, and cloths.
- Refills disposable supplies such as towels, soap, and toilet paper in designated areas.
- Monitors quality, reports repair and maintenance needs, and inspects own work daily.
- Completes all special cleaning assignments as assigned or necessary.
- Attends all department in-service and education meetings or reads posted meeting minutes.
- Follows policies, procedures, and practices outlined in the Employment Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Reports any business practice or compliance concerns according to organization policy.
Lead-specific responsibilities
- Ensures adequate staffing levels in area of responsibility.
- Ensures adequate service at all times, including work completed, staffing adjustments, and assistance to staff as needed.
- Answers telephone and responds in a timely manner.
Waste and linen
- Collects and handles waste and soiled linen according to department procedures.
Bovac/projects
- Performs assigned tasks including vacuuming, projects, carpet and hard floor care, and room setup.
Moves/projects
- Performs assigned tasks in designated areas including moves and project work.
Requirements
- 6 months of experience in commercial housekeeping highly preferred.
- Demonstrates understanding of written and verbal communications in English.
- Lead roles require 6 months of housekeeping experience at Valley Medical Center.
- Successful completion of the WorkSteps evaluation.
- Working knowledge of computers highly preferred.
Qualifications
- Communicates effectively in English.
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
- Able to work assigned shift, including weekends.
- Works independently.
Physical demands and work environment
- Ability to stand during the majority of the shift.
- Walking on hospital campus approximately 5 hours or more, depending on job assignment.
- Pushing and pulling trash and linen carts requiring a force of 48 lbs.
- Bending, stretching, stooping, reaching overhead, and twisting of wrists and arms.
- Rarely requires kneeling.
- Lifting up to 32 pounds with proper body mechanics and/or equipment/additional personnel.
- Exposure to cleaning solutions, cleaning implements, heat, cold, fumes, chemicals, blood, and body fluids with the use of personal protective equipment according to procedures.
- Transports housekeeping supplies and equipment within the facility.
- Cleans areas 10 feet above floor level using extension tools.
Physical activity frequency
- Seldom (1 lift or activity per hour, up to 8 per 8-hour day): Lifting under 10 lbs.
- Occasionally (1 lift or activity per 3 minutes, up to 140 per 8-hour day): Lifting 11–20 lbs, carrying less than 10 lbs (distance less than 10 ft), pushing/pulling force, reaching above shoulder height, twisting, stooping/bending, bending neck, squatting, crawling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lying prone or supine, operating foot controls, repetitive arm motion, repetitive wrist/hand motion, handling/grasping, fingering/pinching, power gripping, power pinching.
- Frequently (1 lift or activity per 1.5 minutes, up to 280 per 8-hour day): Lifting 21–40 lbs.
- Continuously (1 lift or activity per minute, up to 420 per 8-hour day): Keyboarding.

Pay
Salary range: $23.93 – $38.03 per hour, depending on experience.
