About the role

Baylor Scott & White - Pflugerville is a full-service hospital that has achieved Magnet recognition for its nursing professionalism, teamwork, and superior patient care. The facility offers a 50-bed Main Nursing Unit, 24/7 emergency services, and a new Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology Department. As a growing medical center, the health system is continually expanding services to benefit the local community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of management.
  • Train and motivate employees to deliver service standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between Administrator-On-Call staff and external agencies.
  • Be well versed in hospital and medical staff organization and structure.
  • Communicate potentially significant issues promptly to facilitate investigation and resolution.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and support patient and family centered care.
  • Ensure appropriate patient placement and monitor care provided on the nursing units.
  • Address concerns with caregivers, charge nurses, supervisors, and unit/department management teams.
  • Provide consultation and direction for efficient operation and quality customer service.
  • Aid in procedures for patients with complex health problems.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures for pharmacy after-hours services.
  • Participate in clinical and operational problem solving.
  • Respond to emergencies on the campus.

Requirements

  • Must have previous House Supervisor or Charge RN experience.
  • Experience in critical care or ED is highly preferred.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in the nursing field.
  • Registered Nurse certification.
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support accreditation or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of medical terms, promoting health, managing illness and disease, and common medications, dosages, effects, and side effects.
  • Excellent communication skills for both verbal and written expression.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various constituencies.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Aptitude to guide the work of supervised staff in line with established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate performance and conduct training of supervised staff.
  • Able to observe and communicate patient's medical changes with nursing staff and doctors effectively.
  • Essential computer skills including MS Office, email, security, scheduling, payroll systems, and electronic medical records.
