Hourly Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation and Outreach Program Instructor
Wage: $15.00 per hour • Up to 25 hours per week, year-round position with varied schedule that can include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
About the Role
Instructs, organizes, and implements recreation activities in support of the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation (AIR) and Outreach program area. Ability levels of the participants within AIR programs vary; the program Instructor adapts activities to meet individuals where they are.
Actively facilitates structured lessons covering a wide variety of content areas, including but not limited to: arts and crafts, cooking and baking, fitness and wellness, life skills, and special events. Must be flexible to participant changes and needs, adapting and adjusting program plans on short notice.
Works with the outreach program to promote diversity and inclusion within Iowa City. Provides oversight of the after-school program TREE, supporting Jr. High School students. Participates in one-time social or cultural events. Reacts independently in program situations, keeping programs on task and participants and staff safe. Assists with department special events as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Previous experience in instructing recreation programs or interacting with individuals with disabilities and individuals with diverse backgrounds preferred.
- Experience in recreational activities or the willingness to learn is highly preferred.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
