Host/Hostess - Part Time

Job Description

Oversees patient satisfaction according to the patient’s nutritional needs by providing appropriate food trays and assisting patients in preparing trays as needed, such as opening milk cartons. Remains available to patients at meal times to ensure they receive the correct order and are enjoying their meal. Handles the pickup and drop‑off of trucks prior to passing and picking up trays, obtains food preferences as needed, and addresses other issues on the floor and units covered.

Responsibilities

• Oversees patient satisfaction according to patient’s nutritional needs by passing and picking up patient meal trays.
• Implements menu distribution, selection and pick‑up if necessary.
• Picks up and drops trucks at the elevator bay or unit prior to passing and picking up trays.
• Remains available to patients at meal times to ensure they receive the correct order and are enjoying their meal.
• Ensures that patients receive their trays.
• Obtains patients' food preferences using the palm pilot.
• Sets up workstation based on the daily menu.
• Assembles all non‑cooked items for lunch service.
• Assembles trays based on menu selection.
• Communicates effectively with patients, nurses, and family members to ensure satisfaction.
• Communicates effectively with dietitians, other hosts, food service staff, and managers to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of nutrition services.
• Implements a communication system (kardex) if deemed necessary to convey patient information.
• Maintains close communication with the floor dietitian when education and/or consults are needed, or when dietitian intervention is necessary.
• Obtains changes in patient diet and room status as needed.
• Communicates effectively with unit clerks and nurses regarding changes.
• Picks up NPO and discharge lists from all units to ensure appropriate passing of food.
• Assures adequate floor supplies are available on assigned units.
• Performs other related duties of Nutrition Host/Hostess as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Knowledge of nutritional abbreviations (required).
• Experience in food service/nutrition (preferred).
• Detail‑oriented with strong interpersonal relationship skills and strong written and verbal communication skills (required).

Essential Functions

The role includes the essential functions described above and may require the ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move trays and equipment, and interact frequently with patients, staff, and families.
