About the role
Hello Betty Bethesda is located in the vibrant Pike & Rose community on the 3rd floor of the Canopy by Hilton Hotel (940 Rose Avenue, Bethesda). The 3,000-square-foot restaurant features 138 seats, including a 26-seat Tea Room for private gatherings and a unique 40-foot Delta Deadrise boat transformed into a full-service outdoor bar with 23 bar seats and approximately 50 additional patio table seats.
Responsibilities
- Greet arriving customers, escort them to assigned tables, and issue menus while accommodating special needs or requests.
- Assign sections and notify servers of new seats to ensure prompt customer attention.
- Maintain a highly visible presence in the restaurant to assist servers, respond to customer requests, and assess operational efficiency.
- Process payments accurately using a computerized cash register, counting back change aloud for transparency.
- Verify the accuracy of guest checks, including pricing, discounts, and payment methods.
- Ensure charge vouchers are fully completed, including dates, amounts, authorization numbers, and signatures.
- Solicit feedback from departing customers to improve operations and report comments to management.
- Maintain an accurate log of all checks issued to servers and reconcile revenues at the end of each shift.
- Balance and reconcile computerized and manual reports to provide accurate daily business records to the Accounting Department.
- Assist with cleaning duties, including vacuuming, sweeping, and general sidework to maintain a clean and attractive restaurant.
- Check table and seating set-up prior to opening and report maintenance or housekeeping discrepancies in writing.
- Maintain a professional appearance and a friendly, courteous demeanor at all times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 months of experience in a role with heavy cash handling and customer service responsibilities.
- High school graduate-level mathematical aptitude and knowledge of standard cash handling procedures.
- Familiarity with computerized cash register systems.
- General knowledge of customer service skills, restaurant operations, and food service principles.
Physical Demands
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English, follow instructions, and multitask.
- Must handle stressful or highly emotional customer service situations with tact and understanding.
- Capable of handling coins, writing utensils, grasping handles, pushing buttons, and carrying dishes.
- Able to lift and carry trays and bus tubs weighing up to 10 lbs.
- Must stand throughout the entire shift and lift arms above head to retrieve objects from shelves.
- Vision ability to read written communications, computer screens, and print-outs, see colors, and survey the entire room in dimly lit conditions.
Environment
Standing and walking during the entire shift, including carrying, lifting, and bending. Primarily an indoor environment.

Pay
USD $19.00 per hour.
