About the role
The Host-Emergency Department greets each patient, visitor, or guest using GRETE principles with enthusiasm and professionalism. They ascertain customer needs, answer questions, and provide information about the facility. The role includes providing support and emotional comfort to families in crisis, directing or escorting patients and visitors, controlling access to the Emergency Department, and acting as a customer service liaison between Security, Registration, nursing staff, families, and visitors. Responsibilities also involve resolving complaints, answering questions about services and procedures, and performing other duties as needed. These services may be provided for both LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals, including Adult and Children's Emergency Departments.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients, visitors, or guests with professionalism and enthusiasm using GRETE principles.
- Ascertain customer needs and answer questions in a courteous and professional manner.
- Provide information about the facility and answer related questions.
- Offer support and emotional comfort to families experiencing crisis.
- Direct or escort patients and visitors to their correct destination.
- Control patient and visitor passage into the Emergency Department.
- Act as a customer service liaison between Security, Registration, nursing staff, families, and visitors.
- Resolve complaints and answer questions regarding services and procedures.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one year of experience in public relations, guest relations, or customer service.
Skills
- Read, write legibly, and speak clearly in English (bilingual preferred) with professional quality.
- Ability to push/pull wheelchairs.
- Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary for the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Operate and troubleshoot basic office equipment.
- Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
- Work calmly and respond courteously under pressure; collaborate and accept direction.
- Think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload.
- Work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information accurately; pay close attention to detail.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Distinguish colors as necessary.
- Hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify workplace sounds.
- See adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary for the position.
