Position Overview
The Hospitalist Scholar role is a structured one-year academic development pathway designed for early-career internal medicine faculty. This position balances clinical service with protected time for mentorship and skill acquisition in clinical teaching, quality improvement (QI), research, scholarship, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
Clinical Service (0.50 FTE)
- Serve as an attending physician for hospital medicine services.
- Holiday expectations to align with DHM policy.
- Provide high-quality inpatient care to a diverse, high-acuity patient population.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration to refine clinical judgment and procedural skills.
Required Core Curriculum & Conferences
- QI Foundations: Complete the 12-week online QI Foundations or January–September QI Collaborative course.
- Collaborative Scholarship Intensive: Attend sessions held on Fridays from September to February.
- Teaching: Participate in teaching observations.
- Division/Department Conferences: Regularly attend Weekly Grand Rounds, M&M, Monthly Early Career Faculty Development sessions, the DHM Insight Conference, and the DHM Pod/Idea Incubator meetings.
- National Engagement: Attend SHM Converge (Spring) and the Academic Hospitalist Academy (Fall).
Required Qualifications
- Education: Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine or Medicine-Pediatrics residency program prior to the start date.
- Certification: Board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Clinical Skills: Demonstrated strong inpatient internal medicine clinical skills.
- Communication: Excellent collaborative communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interest in pursuing a long-term career in academic hospital medicine.
- Demonstrated interest in clinical teaching and medical education.

Pay And Benefits
- Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
- Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians.
- The base salary for this position is $103,240.
- The salary from the University is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
