About the Role

This role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and placement of patients within the facility. Hospital supervisors have delegated administrative responsibility and authority for supervising hospital personnel and functions, including patient care delivery, in the absence of the Administrator or Department leader. The incumbent may suspend employees whose performance endangers patient care or the ability of other employees to function, after consultation with the Department leader or Administrator on-call. These duties are performed during shifts where there is no on-site Administrator or Department leader.

The position serves as a leader and resource person in facilitating efficient operational activities throughout the facility and acts as an administrative representative knowledgeable about hospital/organizational policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and performs patient placement in alignment with standard work for patient placement, maintaining a primary focus on timely bed placement to ensure hospital throughput.
  • Serves as a leader and key resource in facilitating efficient and safe operational activities throughout the facility.
  • Notifies appropriate leaders or Incident Command/Administrator On-Call (IC/AOC) if operational concerns are present and supports the activation of incident command to respond to critical events.
  • Coordinates internal transfers and direct admissions with the VMFH transfer center.
  • Maintains situation awareness of hospital capacity using available dashboards.
  • Provides succinct, accurate, and current debriefings, including bed status, planned admits and transfers, and other pertinent information during hand-offs, daily safety huddles, afternoon updates, and incident command meetings.
  • Resolves problems and coordinates issues by following the appropriate chain of command (Manager, then Director). Urgent operational issues are directed through IC (business hours) or AOC after hours and weekends.
  • Serves as an administrative representative and resource to staff, assisting with hospital policy/procedures and problem-solving.
  • Ensures communication flow to all stakeholders, including department directors/managers, physicians, external agencies, and internal personnel.
  • Activates appropriate personnel as warranted by the assessment of situations and protocols.
  • Demonstrates awareness of risk-sensitive issues and reports them to the RN in charge, manager, and/or director, including patient/family concerns, physician concerns, and quality of care concerns.
  • Mentors new staff and house supervisors.
  • Performs real-time service recovery for care concerns with patients and families.
  • Facilitates the hospital’s response to unusual incidents to minimize risk.
  • Responds to and initiates disaster plans in accordance with hospital protocols to optimally place resources during crises.
  • Directs and responds to emergency situations and ensures appropriate documentation.
  • Ensures incident reports are created to document safety concerns or events.
  • Screens all new 1:1 sitter requests for appropriateness and monitors safety 1:1 necessity shift to shift.
  • Coordinates shift-to-shift staffing needs with charge RNs and the central staffing office.
  • Makes operational decisions based on staffing levels and supports calling staff in after hours when the central staffing office is closed.
  • Acts as a point of contact for coordination of funeral homes and arrangements with decedent families.
  • Oversees daily morgue census and coordinates with security lead to manage morgue capacity.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competence in communication and care provision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing or related field (required).
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or related field (preferred).
  • 1-3 years of clinical work experience as a Registered Nurse, including a minimum of two years recent work experience in a supervisory, management, or other healthcare leadership capacity.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in Washington state (required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - CPR certification (required).

Pay

$54.95 - $103.62 per hour.
