HOSPITAL POLICE SERGEANT

About the Role

The Hospital Police Sergeant performs duties in the prevention of crime and the enforcement of law and order. This role involves supervising and coordinating police operations related to patrol, traffic, investigation, special assignments, and other law enforcement activities. The position also includes participating in procedural development, interpreting policies, and analyzing crime and service problems.

Responsibilities

• Participates in and supervises police operations, including patrol, traffic, investigation, and special assignments.
• Completes employee evaluations, competency checklists, subordinate’s safety equipment checklists, and FIT certifications within specified time frames.
• Ensures assignments are completed accurately and on time; completes injury or accident reports before going off duty.
• Monitors subordinates’ activities to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures; reviews and disseminates officer safety bulletins.
• Resolves safety issues with subordinates.
• Exercises sound judgment in evaluating situations, making quick and effective decisions during emergencies.
• Provides direction to subordinates during emergencies and relays pertinent information to hospital personnel.
• Implements the Hospital’s Emergency Preparedness Disaster Plan.
• Supervises and participates in law enforcement and administrative work; assigns and monitors work progress and evaluates performance.
• Responds to major incidents, coordinates and directs police officers in handling incidents.
• Investigates felonies, suspicious circumstances, officer-involved incidents, deaths, and other law violations.
• Examines use-of-force incidents and submits findings to the Division Commander.
• Investigates complaints, prepares case histories, field training reports, activity reports, staff reports, recaps, and incident reports.
• Conducts and participates in daily briefings.
• Administers first aid in emergency cases.
• Supervises and maintains the operational needs of an assigned watch/shift/unit; identifies and monitors performance deficiencies and establishes correction plans.
• Interprets and applies hospital and departmental policies and procedures impartially to maintain a discrimination- and harassment-free work environment.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and treats forensically committed patients, primarily sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital with a security perimeter. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security and transportation for patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

Pay

$6,403.00 - $8,452.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, Full Time. In-office work location in Fresno County.
